The Shih Tzu is extremely proud looking bordering on arrogance,
at the same time having the sweetest temperament. The Shih Tzu,
as all its proud owners will tell you, is extremely docile and
least demanding as long as you shower them with affection and
goodies to eat. They never stop eating and love to be spoilt with
treats all the time. This is why you will find that most of these
dogs have weight related problems.
These dogs love luxury like no other human pets. They will prefer
sleeping on the softest of pillows; they needs air conditioning
and are always on the look out for some way or other to be pampered
by its masters. They love attention and do no shy from asking
for it. The Shih Tzu is as comfortable inside as it is outside.
It is true that he loves playing outdoors and will be at its best
in open places. However, it will not be unhappy or sick if it
is not taken out everyday.
There is one thing that the Shih Tzu cannot stand however, and
that is rough handling by small kids. Its attitude can change
to the worst if it feels it is not given the proper importance
and ‘respect’. At such times, it is even inclined to snap at the
perpetrators. Hence, it is not advisable to allow small children
to ‘play’ with them. The Shih Tzu make friends instantly. They
relish anyone who showers them with love and attention and will
be happy in anybody’s company as long as they are the centre of
attention. It is quite impossible not to fawn on them because
they look so appealing all their 11 inches tall of pride and self-assurance!
Jealous and Not Afraid to Show it
The Shih Tzu will be very tolerant and even friendly with the
other pets in the house. However, as per it main personality trait,
it will not tolerate its owner to love anyone more than itself.
This is another reason why these dogs are not good around small
children who necessitate a lot of attention from the parents.
The Shih Tzu does not like to share its love and attention with
anyone. They have to be on the top of the list. Always - without
any exception.
The Shih Tzu is in full sense a lapdog. While it is not high
strung, it definitely demands all your attention and love. There
is nothing that this breed of dogs would love more than curl themselves
in the lap of their owners and sleep.
These dogs are excellent watchdogs that can be surprisingly alert.
At the same time, you will never have the trouble of having a
noisy dog (unless you do not have a purebred) as they themselves
love peace and quiet. They are extremely intelligent and form
a deep bond with their owners who can assure you that their Shih
Tzu can assess correctly their moods and behave accordingly.
This breed is an excellent breed to have if you lead a sedentary
life and you want a nice pet who can occupy both your time and
emotions. You will always know what
to expect with a Shih Tzu.
